THE WORLD'S FIRST EVER PIDGIN OPERA

The World's First Ever Pidgin Opera

Monday 20th July 2015

Get ready for one of this summer’s most thrilling music taking place this 22nd July 2015 at King's Place: The Place Theatre in London.

Featuring The Venus Bush Fires AKA Helen Parker-Jayne Isibor and a medley cast performing SONG QUEEN: A PIDGIN OPERA.

The Venus Bushfires

The Venus Bushfires is a collective of one and many, of which Helen Parker-Jayne Isibor is the only constant member. The Nigerian born singer-songwriter, composer and performance artist explores the ethereal sounds of the hang, the power of the talking drum and the quirks of children's toys, cross- fertilising multiple visual and musical styles. Helen harnesses influences from avant-garde, psychedelic, tribal and meditative arts and draws inspiration from 70's musical pioneers such as Fela Kuti and Can, creating music and stories that explore the sensual and the spiritual. She describes her music as 'Cinematic Afro-Folk'.

She has created music for Christian Dior, Sony PlayStation, Disney, Oxfam, Fight Ebola International Campaign and HRH The Prince of Wales. She has performed with Miley Cyrus and her songs have also featured on French television and documentary films.

In 2008 she orchestrated the world's first ever 'hang flash gig' at the Lovebox festival which was broadcast on Channel 4 (UK). In the summer of 2012 she found herself playing percussion for Sir Paul McCartney which she says was a "huge and surprise blessing that came out of nowhere". She has recently performed at The Saatchi Gallery, London Fashion Week, the Victoria and Albert museum, Old Vic Tunnels, Amnesty International, Oxford University, BBC radio and TV, Royal Horticultural Society, The Honourable Society of the Inner Temple and various festivals from Brazil to Benin City (Nigeria).

Guests scheduled to attend the show include Seal, The Kooks, Scott Maslen, Shane Lynch, Lisa Moorish, Donal MacIntyre and Ray Fearon.
